Chiropractic Therapy
A health profession concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system, and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health. In Illinois, chiropractors are considered primary care physicians, on a par with osteopaths and medical doctors, with the exception that they are not trained nor authorized to use drugs or surgery.
Craniosacral Therapy
A holistic healing practice using very light touch for diagnosis and for making corrections in the craniosacral system. This system is made up of cerebrospinal fluid, cranial and dural membranes, cranial bones, and sacrum. Through very gentle manipulation, tension is reduced and cranial rhythms normalized, leading to improvement in health.
Massage Therapy
Massage therapy is the scientific manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of normalizing those tissues. It consists of manual techniques that apply various types of pressure for the purpose of increasing blood and lymph circulation, reducing or increasing muscle tone, stimulating or sedating the nervous system, and enhancing tissue healing.
Acupuncture
The Chinese practice of inserting very thin needles into specific points along the "meridians" of the body to relieve discomfort associated with painful disorders, and for therapeutic and preventative purposes. Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force known as "chi "--believed to flow through pathways, or meridians, of the body. Inserting needles into very specific points along these meridians re-balances the energy flow, hence restoring health.
Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT)
IMT is a unique compilation of diagnostic and treatment methodologies that assess and treat pain, dysfunction, disease and disability. It is based on the premise that the body has the potential to self-correct or heal itself under the right circumstances. IMT treatments are manual(hands-on), and generally involve very gentle manipulative techniques to promote tissue repair and restore function.
